This one is beyond the reach of the Lasso of Truth. Wonder Woman 3 is supposedly no longer progressing at DC Studios, according to The Hollywood Reporter. For the third film in the series, Patty Jenkins, who directed the first two parts, would have joined Gal Gadot as the lead. Currently, the sequel’s failure to follow the new guidelines established by James Gunn and Peter Safran, co-chairs of DC Studios, is being cited as the reason for the cancellation.

After a lengthy planning session for DC Studios, Gunn and Safran just returned to Los Angeles from Aspen. Jenkins is claimed to have just submitted a draught that was co-written with Geoff Johns, therefore it is assumed that the two told Jenkins about the development. While the character’s present iteration of Jenkins won’t be used again, Gadot’s portrayal of the character might continue in some other capacities. The actress recently thanked her followers on Twitter and said she was looking forward to the next phase. It is unknown if Gadot knew about the movie’s demise when she tweeted.

The debut of Wonder Woman was celebrated widely by both critics and consumers in 2017. Due to the underwhelming reception to Zack Snyder’s Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice and Gadot’s limited experience in leading roles, fans were dubious before the film’s release. Because it was a female-led standalone effort, the movie edged over the Marvel Cinematic Universe to become a cultural milestone for current comic book filmmaking. The sequel, Wonder Woman 1984, received mixed reviews from critics and audiences, despite the fact that it was released at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Though their plans for the upcoming DC projects are still unknown, it is quite evident how much effort Gunn and Safran have been devoting. Recently, Gunn teased the iconic Kingdom Come comic book plot in a social media post, sparking rumors about the plot’s potential role in DC Studios’ future. In addition, recently released advertising for CCXP’s upcoming film Blue Beetle has rekindled interest among viewers. Undoubtedly, Gunn and Safran face a difficult challenge as they attempt to establish their cinematic vision amidst the numerous projects that are already in the works.

This announcement represents yet another regrettable setback for Jenkins, whose Star Wars project was just shelved at Lucasfilm. She was supposed to be the director of Rogue Squadron, a spin-off movie about starfighter pilots in a far-off galaxy. Jenkins is a talent without question who has established herself outside of genre fare. Most notably, she helped Charlize Theron win an Oscar for her pivotal performance in Monster.
