Anton Corbijn, a BAFTA-nominated director, is arguably one of the most intriguing filmmakers working today. Corbijn also helms the occasional Depeche Mode music video as well as various other music videos for bands like Coldplay, U2, and Arcade Fire. Control tells the brief life biography of Joy Division singer Ian Curtis. Corbijn spoke with news about his current and upcoming projects when he was at the Sundance Film Festival promoting his most recent movie, Square The Circle (The Story of Hipgnosis), which is also his first feature documentary.

Switzerland is the name of the brand-new feature film that Corbijn disclosed to our own Editor-in-Chief Steve Weintraub during the interview. Switzerland is “A story about Patricia Highsmith, who wrote The Talented Mr. Ripley and Strangers on a Train for [Alfred] Hitchcock, and stuff like that,” in Corbijn’s own words. Despite the fact that it may seem like a biopic, the filmmaker emphasized that it will actually be a fictitious story with aspects of biography.

Switzerland Won’t Keep Us Waiting for Too Long

Additionally, Corbijn stated that Switzerland will arrive sooner rather than later: Since Highsmith passed away in Switzerland in 1994 at the age of 74, it is safe to assume that he and his team will be in the setting of the movie when they begin filming in Europe this October or November. In any case, given that he is renowned for spreading out his feature picture projects, this is a significant move for Corbijn. Life, his most recent film, was released in 2015. Switzerland will undoubtedly be worth seeing because his supporters are aware of his talent for delivering true stories.

Who is Patricia Highsmith?

Over the course of her writing career, Patricia Highsmith produced over 20 books, the majority of which were psychological thrillers. Five of these books were devoted to the serial killer Tom Ripley, who always managed to get away with his crimes. The most well-known rendition of the character to the big screen was the one starring Matt Damon in 1999’s The Talented Mr. Ripley. Several films, including 2015’s Carol, The Two Faces of January, The Cry of the Owl, and Alfred Hitchcock’s Strangers on a Train, have been adapted from Highsmith’s body of work.

Squaring the Circle (The Story of Hipgnosis), the most current movie by Corbijn, will now be screened at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival after receiving its world debut at the 2022 Telluride Film Festival. The documentary explores the tale of two creative individuals who created two of the most well-known record covers in history: The iconic albums The Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd covered by Storm Thorgerson and Aubrey “Po” Powell. The duo designed the covers using their design studio Hipgnosis, and the movie shows how they were able to fully express their ideas after becoming a major force in the music business.
