Put on your cowboy and cowgirl attire before entering the club; Cheat Codes have gone rural. The musical group published One Night in Nashville, a 15-song love letter to Tennessee’s classic soundtrack (and Las Vegas if bandmates Trevor Dahl, Matthew Russell, and KEVI have anything to say about it.

“Country music is my favorite genre. I’ve always admired how they use songwriting to create stories; it’s so unique compared to other genres. Because of how lovely it is, each song allows you to vividly envisage the events it describes. It’s just special in that regard “Dahl talks about his experience with the genre.

Russell first heard country music on yearly trips to Branson, Missouri, to see Dolly Parton perform at the Dixie Stampede. This experience has now “completely circled” thanks to Parton’s appearance on the song “Bets on Us” from the album.

“[When] we started this project and we were diving in on what we wanted to do, we had a list of names of people that we would love to work with, and Dolly was at the very top of that list. She’s the queen of country,” says Dahl.

“And for her to give her stamp of approval on this song and also just being a part of the album is a huge, huge compliment from her. It really means a lot. And it’s a crazy situation: as a kid, I would’ve never pictured us having a song with somebody as epic as her,” he adds.

The love of Dolly is evident in KEVI as well, who claims to have “grown up in the music business” thanks to his family’s participation in numerous bands. His father, a devoted Dolly fan, is “excited” about “Bets on Us.”

And once their duet was released earlier this month, the country queen even sent Russell a cake to celebrate.

The cake has an inscription that reads, “Matthew, Congrats on ‘Bets on Us’.”

Russell made a joke about the customized dessert, “I don’t want to blow up her spot, you know what I’m saying? “It’s more of a song-related celebration cake.”

One Night In Nashville features a who’s who of country music icons, young and old, old and new. Little Big Town, a fellow band, agreed to duet with Bryn Christopher on the song “Never Love You Again” from Cheat Codes, and their performance instantly made one of the DJs fall in love with Nashville.

“KEVI visited Nashville and was enthusiastic about it. He visited Kid Rock’s establishment, and a year and a half later, he purchased a truck, which was unheard of. He also began donning cowboy hats “Russell provides information about his pal, who has Travis Barker and Shania Twain as great influences.

“I love Shania Twain! I’m trying to see her actually at the Hollywood Bowl. She’s playing here in a couple of months,” he says.

What about KEVI’s eventual renaissance as a country crooner? Russell continues, “We were asking, ‘What’s up, bro? He then said, “Hey guy, I stayed in Nashville that night. Now, I’m totally on board.”
