Fans of Daisy Ridley can celebrate with ease. It has seemed as though we have been forced to live without her upbeat demeanor and captivating presence on our televisions in the years since The Rise of Skywalker. Even while her most recent movie, Sometimes I Think about Dying, which just had its Sundance premiere, isn’t quite “sunny,” it’s nevertheless good to see the actress again after her last significant appearance in Chaos Walking in 2021.

But even as the anticipation for Sometimes I Think about Dying grows, Ridley has already begun to consider the future. Ridley was questioned about her newest project, Magpie, which she was scheduled to start filming the Monday following leaving Park City, during a Sundance interview with news. The impending movie, which was based on Ridley’s own original concept and was written by Ridley’s husband Tom Bateman, was described by the actress as follows:

The film follows a family and a mother who is at home caring for a baby but is slightly pushed past her breaking point. Her husband falls in love with the actress portraying the mother while accompanying their daughter to a movie set. It’s about the contrast between fantasy and reality, what things mean, how different viewpoints affect how we see characters, etc. Additionally, what the audience’s preconceived notions may reveal when they project them into the characters. Therefore, there are numerous factors.

She provided more details about the project, reiterating that she would be portraying the mother, and lauding the entire collaborative process, saying:

It was written by my husband [Tom Bateman]. It’s fantastic, and our cast and staff are outstanding. Since I’ve been working on it, I can attest to the strength of what a group of people can do when they all agree that they are doing the same thing while holding hands. We get to take part in fantastic activities even if we only have a limited amount of time and money to work with.

Ross Bonaime rated Ridley’s most recent movie, Sometimes I Think about Dying, an A-, writing in his review that it was “a dark comedy of restraint and stillness, yet that silence packs an enormous amount of intensity and passion” and that it might be Ridley’s best performance to date.
