Dax Tejera’s wife was accused of abandoning their children while he was still alive
Veronica Tejera is speaking out. In the wake of the passing of her husband, Veronica—the wife of late news producer Dax Tejera—was charged with two charges of endangering the welfare of a child, NYPD Lieutenant John Grimpel confirmed to news
In a note sent out at the time, network president Kim Godwin stated that Dax, who produced This Week with George Stephanopoulos, passed away on December 23 at the age of 37 after suffering a heart attack.
According to Veronica’s statement to Entertainment Tonight, which was published on January 3, the couple’s 2-year-old and 5-month-old girls were left in a hotel room that same evening.
Speaking on behalf of the NYPD, The report that around 11 p.m., police officers answered a 911 call “Unattended children” were reported as having been abandoned, with the statement “The mother was taken into custody and charged.”
Veronica is now explaining what happened that night from her perspective. She told the news, “I rode in an ambulance with Dax to the hospital after he passed out on December 23rd. The hotel would not let my friend in and instead phoned the NYPD, so I requested both my parents and a close friend to rush to my children’s hotel room to take care of them while I watched them on a webcam.
The 33-year-old said, “While the girls were unharmed, I recognize that it was a stupid move. We had two cameras trained on my children as they slept, and I monitored them constantly in the time I was gone from them.”
Veronica described her husband’s passing as a “sad tragedy.”
“My family and I are devastated by Dax’s sudden passing,” she said. “He has left behind a heartbroken family, and two daughters he loved with all his heart.”
After his passing, other coworkers paid him tribute online.
Jim Avila, a senior national journalist for News, described Dax as an executive producer who “breaks new territory.” Jim stated that it was “very crucial to news as if not the first Latino, among the first to ascend to executive producer level.” “He and I were coworkers at fusion. Consistently encouraging and excellent. He will be missed. And sympathize with his young family.”
