Katharine McPhee talks about having a second child with David Foster. The Smash alum talked about the prospect of having another child with her husband and what being a mother means to her while making an appearance on Friday’s episode of The Jennifer Hudson Show. (The couple is currently the parents of 23-month-old Rennie.

The audience in the studio applauded when McPhee, 38, remarked, “I would love to have another baby, but we’ll see.”

She then said to host and fellow American Idol alum Jennifer Hudson, “We’re not in any crazy rush, but I hope so,” before adding, “I adore being a mom, I truly enjoy it.”

Hudson, 41, then inquired as to whether McPhee’s son could sing “like his mother,” the celebrity retorted, adding, “So far, I’d say singing isn’t his strongest strength. He’s still a toddler, so I’m not trying to be too harsh.”

Foster, 73, also has six adult children from previous relationships in addition to his infant with McPhee: Allison, 52, Amy, 49, Sara, 41, Erin, 40, and Jordan, 36.

The record producer recently told news outlets, “I had only daughters up until I had my son, and I love all my daughters enormously, but having a son is a little bit different.”

Foster continued, “I’m still getting used to the thought of becoming a parent in my later years.” “It’s once again different in my life right now. Just different, not better or worse. I still work and travel frequently, but perhaps because I have more runway behind me than I do in front of me, I value leisure a little more.”

Despite this, Foster said that having a toddler at 73 demands “patience,” a quality he acknowledges he lacked when he was raising his five children. When I was younger, I was not patient,” he admitted. “I was just on the move and haughty.”

Given their age difference, there were conflicting emotions when Foster and McPhee first revealed they were having a child together. The musician recently told the news that he is aware of the “naysayers” who questioned their choice, adding that it’s “a reasonable topic,” but he has his own viewpoint on it.

Even if I won’t be here when Rennie is 50, 40, or even 30, Foster said, “I suppose that I can offer him one thing.” “I believe that after 72 years on the planet, I can impart some wisdom to him. And perhaps that’s not such a bad compromise. So, I hope.”
