Kevin Costner named best drama actor in GG’23
Kevin Costner presenter Regina Hall remarked, “I am going to receive the award on your behalf, Kevin,” as the 67-year-old actor was not present at the presentation in Los Angeles.
In a video posted to Instagram, Costner explained that bad weather at his Santa Barbara, California, home forced him and his wife, Christine Baumgartner, to skip the award ceremony.
He began by saying, “We had to pull the kids out of school yesterday,” and then added, “This is the second time in five years that the motorway has flooded out, and we found ourselves on the wrong side of the town.
No one is more disappointed than us that we were not able to attend, he insisted.
To win the coveted prize, Costner bested Jeff Bridges (The Old Man), Diego Luna (Andor), Bob Odenkirk (Better Call Saul), and Adam Scott (Severance).

Despite having previously been nominated and winning at the Golden Globes for both directing and acting in a limited series, this is the first time that Costner has won in the category.
The actor portrays John Dutton, the father and owner of Montana’s greatest ranch, in the much-liked Paramount+ series, as he navigates friction with his own family as well as the nearby Broken Rock Indian Reservation, national park, and developers.
The Tyler Sheridan series, which debuted in 2018, has spawned a number of spin-offs, including the Tim McGraw-starring prequel 1883.
