Magic Mike’s Last Dance promos, posters, and behind-the-scenes photos are being released as the film gets closer to its release date, which is in a few weeks. A broke Mike will be shown working as a bartender in Florida until he meets a socialite who gives him the chance to perform in London. Actors Channing Tatum and Salma Hayek discuss what to expect from the impending threequel in a new featurette, with the plot for the final dance and passion-filled film in the trilogy already established.
“This is the third Magic Mike movie. It’s gonna blow people’s minds,” says Hayek in the clip which finally reveals her character’s name as Maxandra Mendoza. The one-minute-long clip intercuts various behind-the-scenes moments of Hayek and Tatum hard at work practicing dance routines with the dance crew. Tatum elaborates, “This is a place where we can redesign what Magic Mike actually is. This is a fish out of water story.”
We see Mike’s reactions to numerous socioeconomic contrasts between his life in Miami and London in the following clips, which lead to some humorous moments. As Hayek observes, “we never got out of a strip club, this time we have a theatre.” the location of the film has changed. According to the movie’s premise, Hayek’s character has hidden goals that put Mike’s career in jeopardy. However, Tatum says that it’s a very different situation because Mike is working to advance the genre.
Tatum and Hayek’s remarks concur with franchise director Steven Soderbergh’s earlier admission that the movie was inspired by the live show’s very early conceptual workshops, which he found to be intriguing. But when he saw the full Broadway production in London, everything was different. I got on the phone and told them, “I think we should drop the Broadway plan, and I’d like to make a movie that’s a dramatized version of how Mike came up with the live show idea.
Magic Mike’s Last Dance also stars Ayub Khan Din, Jemelia George, Juliette Motamed, Vicki Pepperdine, Gavin Spokes, Caitlin Gerard, Christopher Bencomo, and Nas Ganev in addition to Tatum as Mike and Hayek as socialite Maxandra.
