Lauren Miller Rogen, his wife, is Seth Rogen’s ultimate inspiration and collaborator. As he is ready to invite guests to an overnight stay and pottery class with an Airbnb cooperation inspired by the venture, the Golden Globe nominee, 40, tells the press that his cannabis home products firm Houseplant might not have been “if she hadn’t encouraged me.”

“She had done ceramics, and she just thought I would like it,” Seth recalls. “And she kind of implored me to go take lessons with her.”

Seth and Lauren, both 41, eventually took up the hobby together, and Seth recalls that “the first items I started making” were ashtrays, which he later began producing under the name.

“So really, Lauren knew that I would enjoy that and knew that it would speak to my taste and sensibilities,” adds Seth. “And definitely, we would not have made these ashtrays if she hadn’t encouraged me to start doing pottery and, in general, held my hand throughout the process.”

The Cavalier King Charles spaniel Zelda, who is 13 years old, served as the inspiration for a lighter caddy, according to The Fabelmans actor. The pleased dog owner recalls that his daughter had her bat mitzvah in August.

Zelda also made an appearance in the 2012 film For a Good Time Call…, which Lauren co-wrote and starred in. The film also starred Ari Graynor, Justin Long, Mark Webber, and Seth had a hilarious cameo appearance.

As a “wonderful writer and director, and creatively over the years, has been instrumental to our movies,” the Canadian actress compliments Lauren. He claims that the chemistry she implanted in him and Rose Byrne’s characters in Neighbors (2014) and its follow-up in 2016 “directly inspired” their roles.

“And I think it really actually became people’s favorite part of the movies,” Seth continues. “This husband and wife that were partners in crime rather than hated each other, which was kind of the go-to dynamic of all husbands and wives in comedy films, basically.”

The Houseplant offices, which Rogen provided a tour of to archdigest.com in April, served as the model for his Airbnb experience. The mid-century sanctuary is perched in the Los Angeles hills with breathtaking views of the city and is equipped with Rogen’s ceramic sculptures. Rogen will also swing by to give some pottery tips.

The entire experience costs $42 and is accessible for three one-night stays between February 15 and 17. In honor of the partnership, Airbnb will give a one-time donation to Hilarity for Charity, the Alzheimer’s charity that Seth, Lauren, and pals co-founded.

Although smoking is not permitted inside the house and cannabis is not offered with the experience, Rogen recently brought a noteworthy new bud to the actual Houseplant headquarters.

“I met Woody Harrelson for the first time recently and got to smoke weed with him. He came by the Houseplant house, which was very nice,” he recounts. “And weirdly, throughout all the years, I had really never met Woody Harrelson or smoked weed with him. And then we got to do it.”

In his native Canada, Rogen and his co-writer and director Evan Goldberg debuted Houseplant in 2019. The two previously collaborated on the 2008 stoner buddy comedy Pineapple Express with James Franco and Seth Rogen, which brought in close to $102 million worldwide on a $26 million budget.

“It’s like a real movie that came out and destroyed, made $100 million. It made the amount of money a real movie has to make in order to become a smash-hit success,” he raves.

“And that I think was very validating to people who smoked weed … that we’re not lazy losers,” says Rogen. “And I think Houseplant kind of continues that idea.”

According to the actor and filmmaker, he wanted to infuse the cannabis industry with a “reverence for style” that is also “additive to our lifestyles,” much like how individuals organize their home’s bar as an attractive feature.

Rogen asserts “I think marijuana is among the best things in the world. In light of it, I believe it merits lovely things to accompany it.”
