Michael Shannon, who is well-known for his parts in The Shape of Water and Take Shelter, is returning to the world of comedy with the release of A Little White Lie. With just over a month until the movie’s debut, Saban Films has unveiled an official trailer in which the actor plays an imposter who becomes caught in an expanding falsehood.

The tale revolves around Shannon’s character, who is thought to be an author who has been hiding for more than 20 years. Despite having never read a book in his life, he chooses to go with the flow and adopts a new identity. At the college literary festival, he encounters adoring fans and even starts to feel attracted to an English professor, played by Kate Hudson, whose banter with Shannon fosters a good sense of camaraderie between the characters. The trailer does a great job of teasing many plot strands that Shannon’s character will engage in when the deception starts to get out of hand while also effectively describing the movie’s premise.

But like any tiny white lie, the persona he assumes quickly spirals out of control in a comic way as the genuine author, played by Zach Braff, enters the picture and puts everything in danger. The future of Shannon’s character is currently unknown, but since the movie is scheduled to premiere in March, spectators won’t have to wait long to see the humorous mischief he will get up to. The notion of the liar-revealed story is an old one, but Shannon and Hudson’s skills could make it more entertaining for viewers by giving hilarious performances.

The cast of the movie is featured on a vibrant poster that carries the phrase “the truth is in the fiction,” which sums up the plot in one sentence, along with the release of the brand-new trailer. Michael Maren, who also wrote the screenplay for A Little White Lie, is the film’s director and is based on Chris Belden’s novel Shriver. Along with Braff, Kate Linder, Aja Naomi King, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, and Don Johnson, Shannon, and Hudson are featured in the movie. Along with Byron Wetzel, Lucas Jarach, Josh Kesselman, Jina Panebianco, and Robert Ogden Barnum, Michael J. Reiser is a producer on the project.
