  • Universal Pictures is continuing to celebrate by releasing “legacy” trailers.
  • Eight additional movies have been released since the 2001 blockbuster The Fast and the Furious.
  • Fast Five is a classic film in the series, the second to be directed by Justin Lin.

With only five days left till the debut of the first Fast X clip, Universal Pictures is continuing to celebrate by releasing “legacy” trailers for each of the previous Fast and Furious movies. Eight additional movies have been released since the 2001 blockbuster The Fast and the Furious first appeared in theatres, but the franchise’s fifth feature, the fan-favorite Fast Five, is generally regarded as its best entry. The Fast and Furious action movie from 2011 not only signaled a significant change in the plot, it was also the first installment in the series to star actor and professional wrestler Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

In the beginning of Fast Five, former police officer Brian O’Conner (Paul Walker, Running Scared) and Mia Toretto (Jordana Brewster, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning) plan a rescue operation to free her brother Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel, who provided the voice of Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy) from jail as he is being transported on a prison bus.

In order to complete one final assignment before obtaining their freedom permanently, the fugitives gather a squad of top racers and former Fast and Furious all-stars while on the run in Rio De Janeiro. The intimidating federal agent Luke Hobbs (Johnson, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle), who is hot on their tail, and crime boss Hernan Reyes (Joaquim de Almeida, Clear and Present Danger), who wants them killed for stealing his property, are the two main obstacles on their path.

In the Fast Five “legacy” teaser, Johnson’s Hobbs highlights one of the most crucial components of pursuing down our favourite Fast and Furious fugitives: “Don’t ever, ever let them get into cars.” Fast Five is a classic film in the series, the second to be directed by Justin Lin, who would later go on to helm two more, Fast & Furious 6 in 2013 and F9: The Fast Saga in 2021. Fast Five is full of fast automobiles and explores the true meaning of family. Before leaving the production owing to creative differences with Diesel, Lin was initially linked to the upcoming movie Fast X. Louis Leterrier, who previously directed The Incredible Hulk and The Transporter, was chosen to helm the two-part film.
