1975 joined the actress, 20 when she presided over Saturday Night Live’s inaugural episode this past weekend. I think there’s just something about my face where people see it and are like, “Hey! Let’s throw blood on that,” Ortega said to the in-studio audience and viewers watching at home during her opening monologue as she made fun of how she is known for her many horror roles, including Wednesday, X, Scream V, and Scream VI.

The Netflix comedy’ Uncle Fester, played by Wednesday co-star Fred Armisen, then joined her on stage. “Wow! This is how being a cast member of Saturday Night Live feels, “The 56-year-old Armisen hinted, making reference to his time on the program from 2002 to 2013.

Ortega replied, “You were on the show for 11 seasons,” and then informed Armisen that it was because of him that she had grown up watching Saturday Night Live.

Ortega participated in a number of sketches during the program, including one in which she played a character who was possessed by a demon and another in which she played the part of Zena from the X-Men during a game show.

Another scene from the program included the actress parodying The Parent Trap, in which Armisen played a crew worker who serves as Ortega’s character’s body double.

1975, which consists of Matty Healy, Adam Hann, Ross MacDonald, and George Daniel, made their second-ever appearance on Saturday Night Live.

The trio, which last performed on the Larry David-hosted episode in 2016, opened the show with “I’m in Love with You” and subsequently returned to the stage to perform “Oh Caroline” towards the finale.

SNL’s 48th season has been in progress as the comedic sketch program deals with a significant cast transition. After the season 47 finale, longtime series regulars Kate McKinnon, Pete Davidson, Aidy Bryant, and Kyle Mooney left the show.

On September 1, news outlets revealed that Melissa Villaseor, Alex Moffat, and featured player Aristotle Athari would also be leaving the series. After five seasons, Chris Redd announced his retirement from SNL, while Cecily Strong quit the program in December 2022.

On September 15, NBC announced the names of the four new featured performers that will appear on Saturday Night Live in season 48: Marcello Hernandez, Molly Kearney, Michael Longfellow, and Devon Walker.

Season 48 of SNL, according to creator Lorne Michaels, is in a “transition year” because “a different generation comes into the program,” he said while speaking to reporters backstage at the 2022 Emmy Awards.

On April 1, Quinta Brunson will serve as the host, and Lil Yachty will perform as the musical guest.
