With his Sunday night absence from the 2023 Oscars, Tom Cruise ignited rumors. According to rumors, the Top Gun: Maverick actor skipped the ceremony to avoid seeing Nicole Kidman, his ex-wife.

Cruise, 60, skipped the 95th Academy Awards despite the fact that his big-budget film Maverick had six nominations.

In order to prevent a “awkward run-in” with Kidman, whom he divorced more than 20 years ago, the Mission Impossible actor apparently sought to avoid.

“Tom was not there because she was there, and he did not want a run-in,” a source told the media on Monday.

Yet according to people close to Cruise, his absence was “not personal” and was instead due to schedule conflicts.

The actor is presently filming Mission: Impossible 8 overseas, according to a representative for Cruise who spoke to People.

Connor and Isabella, who are now 27 and 29, were adopted by Cruise and Kidman after their marriage on December 24, 1990. In February 2001, the Edge of Tomorrow star filed for divorce, alleging “irreconcilable difference.”

The Mummy actor wed 44-year-old actress Katie Holmes on November 18, 2006. The couple separated in August 2012 and had a daughter named Suri, who is now 16 years old.

Top Gun: Maverick, starring Cruise, was nominated for an Academy Award in the following categories: best adapted screenplay; best film editing; best original song; best visual effects; and best sound.

Take My Breath Away, the song from the 1987 sequel to Top Gun, received the Oscar for Best Song.
