‘Naughty Dog’ has confirmed its next game is a multiplayer version of ‘The Last of Us 2’

Naughty Dog has practically announced that their next game would be a standalone multiplayer project that is heavily linked to The Last of us 2. Naughty Dog had been working on a multiplayer mode for The Last of Us 2 alongside the campaign, but it was finally shelved as the story mode grew more ambitious and demanded more attention from the team.

Naughty Dog hinted that something multiplayer-related would be released within that realm at some point, and now it appears that this is Naughty Dog’s next game.

Job postings for what is most certainly The Last of Us 2’s multiplayer have been appearing for months, raising some concerns about how far along the project is. It’s been a little over a year since the PS4 version of the main game was released, and certain improvements had already been made previous to that.

It’s unknown how far the team had progressed on multiplayer before focusing entirely on the story mode. If the project development is actually The Last of Us 2 multiplayer, then Naughty Dog’s scope must have grown dramatically for it to be developed as a separate game.
