PEMRA members have referred GEO TV as a mere show-off.
Sources revealed that the time limit for appealing against minor penalties granted to Geo TV ended and the government did not request the court to extend the punishment. The news was reported in July 2014. According to details, PEMRA member Mian Shams said that the license of Geo TV was suspended for 15 days only, and a fine of Rs 10 million was imposed.
However, GEO TV did not deposit the fine. Shams said that PEMRA had decided to take action against the media giant. He also said that cable operators are likely to face the cancellation of their licenses and to pay fine.
Another member Israr Abbasi said that penalty given to GEO TV was against the law.
