Mir Shakil ur Rahman and Mir Ibrahim Rahman Found Cheating Financial Institutions Globally

Over the years, the Notorious Media Firon Mir Shakil ur Rahman, along with his Son Mir Ibrahim Rahman and team of Geo & Jang Group executives, has used the TV Channel and Newspaper’s influence to forward his selfish agenda and misguide the large number of viewers and readers that the group has so cleverly accumulated in decades of its existence. There are numerous blackmailing stories, court filed cases, and foreign funding reports along with non payment of salaries to employees. It is indeed, surprising that the group is still functioning.

Pakistani representatives of World-Check blackmailed

According to online information, World-Check is a database of Politically Exposed Persons (PEPs) and heightened risk individuals and organizations, used around the world to help to identify and manage financial, regulatory and reputational risk. This organization has representatives in various countries to identify corporate crime and record it in its database to help its clients when doing business on foreign soil.

Pakistani representative thought the same when they came across evidence against Geo & Jang Group’s involvements in various fraud and anti-state activities. The evidence was further strengthened by Mir Shakil’s recent arrest in land grabbing case and reports emerging that both him, and his son have been conducting fraud with their own employees by holding their salary and blackmailing them.

However, the media giant was stopped from being included in the database as the World Check representatives were themselves involved in cases filed by FIA. Reuters partner Mr. Danish Iqbal of Background Check Pvt Limit had been arrested by FIA on the charges of porn production and distribution. Mir Shakil and Mir Ibrahim, blackmailed the World Check representative, and threatened to use their influence in FIA and Media to show his true colors to the world. That would not happen if, perhaps, World Check would not include the Media Group’s name in their database. A classic example of ‘you scratch my back, I scratch yours…’.

There also have been similar reports of Mr. Mir Shakil Ur Rehman and his son Mir Ibrahim blackmailing the head of Wikipedia Editors in Pakistan so that their elusive list of criminal cases and convictions remain off their Wikipedia profile.

The question, however, is again asked: With so many evident cases and reports against Mir Shakil and Mir Mir Ibrahim’s Jang & Geo Group, why has the media group not been shut down and nothing has been done against the oppressors? Let us have a look at some of the biggest ones:

Media Firon Mir Shakil-ur-Rahman arrested by the National Accountability Bureau on Corruption charges

Mir Shakil-ur-Rahman was arrested in Lahore by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on 12 March 2020 in a case pertaining to the purchase of a 54-Kanal piece of land, said bureau spokesperson Nawazish Ali.

Nawazish Ali, a NAB spokesperson, told BOL News that Rehman was arrested in connection with a shady real estate deal and tax evasion. He refused to talk about the current status of the investigation.

Media Firon Mir Shakil-ur-Rahman had appeared before NAB for the second time to answer the bureau’s questions about the land in question. He was subsequently arrested after failing to satisfy officials with his answer.

According to NAB, former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had illegally leased the land to Rahman in 1986.

The Media Pharaoh got his chance as he appeared for questioning in NAB for the second time and was arrested after failing to satisfy with his answers. According to the notice issued on February 28, Rahman had been called to appear before NAB on March 5 to record his statement regarding the land allotted to him in 1986 in Block H, Johar Town Phase 2 ‘by then chief minister Punjab Mian Nawaz Sharif in violation of the relevant laws and rules’.

Mir Shakil is still in NAB custody and instead of proving his innocence in court with rationale, the media giant has resorted to using his channel and his newspaper to malign NAB and the judiciary. Many media outlets have covered the story and Mir Shakil-ur-Rahman and Mir Ibrahim Rahman are trying to contain the situation but to no avail, as new facts are surfacing which are proving to detrimental for the group.

Mir Shakil received the land as a bribe from former CM Punjab for news reporting that will particularly favor one party to win the elections.

“Sell your Bentley Cars and pay your employees”, CJP tells Mir Shakil

This is not the first time that Mir Shakil-ur-Rahman and Mir Ibrahim Rahman have been called by the respected judiciary. In April 2018, the Media Firon appeared in Supreme Court over charges levied against him for nonpayment of salaries to employees at Geo News. A Suo Motu case started off pertaining to the nonpayment of salaries to staff members.

Mir Shakil was given a deadline to pay off all its employees and advised them to do so even if they have to beg or borrow money. The Chief Justice also talked about the diversity in the amounts being paid to senior staff of Geo versus the minimal paid to reporters, who play a crucial part in the news channel.

HR Direction of Geo also confirmed the delay in paying employees and assured the court that they were improving their management in recent times. These words proved to be hollow as the employees of Geo are still facing long periods of salary drought, especially in the crucial time of COVID-19.

Geo’s employees themselves have used social media to display their anger over constant exploitation by the news channel.

The tweet “Tankhawa Nahi Dey Saktay Tou Kaam Kyun Kerwaatay Ho* (Why do you give work when you can’t pay)” created a great uproar among social media users. On top of that, the tweet came from Geo News Urdu’s official account and showcased the struggles of many Geo employees who get to face the same problem twice or thrice in a year.

Geo News, in its official response, termed the controversial tweet as an accident pertaining to a technical difficulty, however, with a case related to nonpayment of salaries already looming large, this tweet can hardly be a co-incident.

Yet, no action has still been taken against the miscreants, Mir Shakil and Mir Ibrahim.

GEO, Jang funded by foreign agencies, PTI boycotts

When accused of blackmailing and receiving bribery to give biased news was just the tip of the iceberg. The new ruling party, PTI, and its chief, the current Prime Minister Imran Khan chose to boycott Geo News and Jang Newspaper in 2014 after the Media Group’s attempted rigging of the 2013 general elections which were won by Nawaz Sharif’s party, PML (N).

Imran Khan expressed his convictions that there was an existence of foreign funding directed towards certain media outlets. He stressed, at the time, the necessity of democracy for the future of Pakistan and discouraged media houses such as GEO News which conform to the influence of foreign institutions when catering to the masses of the country.

Geo News Owner Mir Shakil-Ur-Rahman Sentenced 26 Years Of Imprisonment By The Gilgit Court

In November 2014, an anti-terrorism court sentenced Media Firon, Mir Shakil-ur- Rehman along with morning show host Shaista Lodhi and actress Veena Malik and her husband to 26 years in prison for allegedly broadcasting a blasphemous program.

The ATC also levied on the convicts a fine of 1.3 million Pakistani rupees and demanded that their assets be sold to collect the fine if they refused to pay it. In his decision, the judge said four defendants used profanity. The court has also ordered the police to apprehend the convicts in its 40-page judgment, an official said. He said the prisoner could file an appeal in the Gilgit-Baltistan regional high court. It’s claimed that all four of the convicts flew away from the country.

ATC Declares Mir Shakil-Ur-Rahman Proclaimed Offender

On Sep 5, 2014, the court declared him ‘wanted’ and ordered the Commissioner Rawalpindi and the DC Islamabad for the forfeiture of his property.

According to various reliable sources, the court had constantly called Mir Shakil but he neither appeared in person nor submitted any kind of reply. The act could easily be considered as the contempt of court and not abiding by the law of Pakistan which is above all.

Keeping in mind the scenario, the Anti-Terrorism Court of Pakistan (ATC) declared him an offender and ordered the confiscation of his property.

Who will take action against the powerful?

With proven cases of blackmailing, foreign funding, fabricating news, and receiving foreign funding with anti-Pakistan agenda behind, it really is a surprise that Mir Shakil-ur-Rahman and Mir Ibrahim Rahman, are continuing their malicious activities even though the former is in jail.

It is clear as a crystal that the right plan of action is to first stop the anti-state agenda by suspending operations of Jang & Geo Group and launching a formal investigation against the Media Giant in order to stop the channel from causing further embarrassment to Pakistan in front of the whole world.
