Mir Ibrahim’s GEO News Receives Notice For Promoting Sectarian Violence
GEO/JANG Group served notice for fanning sectarianism
The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) served a notice to GEO Group after receiving complaints from the public against the program ‘Naya Pakistan’.
It was added that a large number of masses strongly reacted to the program anchored by Talat Hussain on February 22 on Geo News.
PEMRA spokesman said that the program ‘Naya Pakistan’ is in contrast with laws defined by the regulatory body. He said that the organization observed the program as a source of spreading sectarianism and religious intolerance, while it also hurt the feelings of the people.
This, however, is not the first time. The channel has been involved in spreading hate speech through other programs as well. The famous morning show hosted by Shaista Lodhi on GEO News also came under fire for the same. Sectarian violence and the chaos that it causes in Pakistan is not hidden from anyone. However, it is only shameful when so-called media houses in the country use their authority just to get some TRPs.
Numerous cases are registered against Mir Shakil-ur-Rahman, GEO, and JANG administration, and some other employees for committing blasphemy and for defaming key security institutions of the state.
