Smoking is injurious to health and it destroys lungs and Coronavirus is a respiratory illness which destroys lungs too but smoking cigarette can kill COVID-19 that is what British artist David Hockney claimed.

The 82-year-old David Hockney who is famous for his paintings of California pools, wrote a letter to the British media outlet Daily Mail in which he said that he believes smoking could protect people against the COVID-19 many scoffed.

David Hockney wrotein a letter “Could it not be that smokers have developed an immune system to this virus? With all these figures coming out, it’s beginning to look like that to me.”

He further wrote “I’ve smoked for more than 60 years, but I think I’m quite healthy,” he says. “How much longer do I have? I’m going to die of either a smoking-related illness or a non-smoking-related illness.”

New Study finds link between Smoking and Depression

On the other hand today, President of anti-addiction group Turkish Green Crescent Professor Mucahit Ozturk has urged people to stop smoking in order to prevent contaction of COVID_19.

He said smokers have 14 times greater chance to contract COVID-19 as compared to those who do not smoke.

Professor Ozturk added “Using tobacco and tobacco products increases the risk of catching the coronavirus, therefore, avoiding all addictive substances plays an important role in protecting ourselves against the virus.”
