Walmart Pharmacy – Walmart Inc.
Amidst a tight labor market, drugstore operators CVS Health Corp and Walmart Inc both said on Friday that they will modify their working hours for their US pharmacy teams and implement it statewide in 4,600 locations.
Since the Covid-19 pandemic, there has been a widespread labor shortage in the United States, forcing businesses to provide alluring incentives and wage hikes.
Walmart announced last year that it would raise the average compensation of pharmacy workers to more than $20 per hour, while Walgreens Boots Alliance and CVS each raised their minimum wages to $15 per hour in 2021.
The local business magzine writer broke the news that CVS Health Corp. and Walmart were shortening drugstore hours earlier on Friday.
According to a corporate spokeswoman, starting in March, Walmart pharmacies will be open from 9 AM to 7 PM, Monday through Friday. The hours on the weekends won’t change. They are open right now from 9 AM to 9 PM.
The impacted pharmacies’ new hours of operation, which start in March, will vary, according to CVS, which also said that it periodically examines working hours to ensure that peak customer demand is fulfilled.
Pharmacies were included in the company’s 9,900 retail outlets, according to a regulatory filing from February 2022.
In response to staffing issues that have, among others, affected retailers and healthcare organizations over the past 12 months, Walgreens said in a statement that occasionally it has had to modify store or pharmacy hours at select locations.
