“Together, We Are United Against Corruption”

Anti Corruption Day, is being observed globally today, to raise awareness and highlight the dangerous effects of corruption.

As per details, The United Nations General Assembly on October 31, 2003, adopted the United Nations Convention against Corruption, and designated December 9 International Anti-Corruption Day, in order to raise awareness about corruption and of the role of Convention in fighting and preventing it.

This convention came into force in the year 2005, and since then the day is being observed annually.

This year the day is observed under the theme: “Together, We Are United Against Corruption”.

The day encourages a global fight against corruption and urges all governments to join hands against it.

In his message on the occasion, UN Secretary-General, António Guterres has urged people around the world to continue to work on innovative solutions to win the battle against corruption and to ensure that precious resources serve the peoples of the world.

In Pakistan, National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Anti-Corruption Establishment and other organizations working for elimination of corruption, will hold special programmes today, including seminars and walks to mark the Day.

Chairman NAB Justice Retired Javed Iqbal has repeatedly in his addresses about the root causes and how to eradicate the corruption.

Addressing an anti-corruption seminar in Rawalpindi, last week, he said that  dreams can be transformed with hard work, 2161 cases are being heard in the courts. Corruption has put the country on the brink of destruction, with justice, countries are making progress, politicians are not the ones to criticize.

He said that the new generation must help in building a corruption free Pakistan. He also said that If accountability is a crime, then we will continue to do so.

Javed Iqbal said that sincere efforts are being made to end corruption, Pakistan is always ready to stay afloat, I want to bring prosperity to the country, our loyalty is with the country only, end the recommendation culture.

He said NAB is the main institution for eliminating corruption from the country, the country has raised more than $ 10 billion, and wants to promote a constructive role in society.
