Slain military commander, Qassem Soleimani’s funeral was held in vast crowds in Tehran here on Monday (today).

Mourners packed the streets of Tehran for ceremonies to pay homage to top Iranian military commander Qasem Soleimani.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei led vast crowds in prayers at the funeral of Qassem Soleimani, publicly weeping for the general killed by a U.S. drone strike.

The crowd clutched portraits of their hero and gathered at Tehran University.

On the other hand, Supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei presided over prayers for the slain Iranian general.

Earlier, Qassem Soleimani killed in a U.S drone strike near Baghdad airport.

Soleimani’s assassination ratcheted up tensions between arch-enemies Tehran and Washington.

In freezing early morning temperatures, women in black walked alongside men holding up flags.

However, they walked down Tehran’s Street towards the university.

Moreover, the procession broadcasted live on state television.

The screens bear a black ribbon across the top left hand corner in a rare tribute.

Khamenei appeared to cry as he prayed over the flag-draped coffins containing the remains of Soleimani and five other “martyrs” killed in the strike.

Earlier, Zeinab Soleimani, daughter of the late Qassem Suleimani, threatened the US it faces a “dark day” for the murder.

Zeinab said, “Crazy Trump, don’t think that everything is over with my father’s martyrdom.”

Moreover, President Rouhani met Soleimani’s family in Tehran.

He said, “The Americans really did not realize what grave error they have committed.”
