China announces decrease in new cases whereas 142 more patients died

Authorities in China have declared a decrease in new cases from coronavirus. Sources revealed that 142 more people have died in China whereas 2,009 new cases were reported.

The death toll has reached 1,665. There are 68,000 confirmed cases of the virus in the country.

In addition to this, there are more than 500 cases in around 30 countries. Four deaths were reported in France, Japan, the Philippines, and Hong Kong.

The number of new cases was decreased after a change in the way they were counted but have been decreasing ever since.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi spoke before the new figures were announced. He said that a decrease in new cases expresses “that overall the epidemic is controllable”.

“We’ve taken such complete prevention and control efforts, efforts that are so comprehensive, that I can’t see any other country that can do this,”

The central bank of China is to disinfect and store used banknotes ahead of recirculating then in a bid stop the virus spreading.

There are five new cases of the virus in Singapore, the total number is 72. Out of these, 18 people have been discharged from the hospital.

World Health Organisation (WHO) head Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus appreciated Beijing’s efforts.

He said, “China has bought the world time. We don’t know how much time,” “We’re encouraged that outside China, we have not yet seen widespread community transmission.”
