European Union is all set to agree UK trade deal, ministers from the EU will meet to approve their mandate for trade negotiations with the UK.
EU General Affairs Council approved the document on Tuesday morning. Future talks will be carried out by Micheal Barnier on the basis of this document.
it will mention that a trade agreement should be made on the basis of EU rules in some areas as “a reference point”.
Note that UK ministers will also gather at No 10 to decide the government’s stance on a trade agreement.
Officials are due to publish the final agreement online and brought to Parliament on Thursday.
BBC Brussels correspondent Adam Fleming considered the EU document significant “because experience shows the EU will only accept a final deal with the UK on trade, security and other matters that come close to conditions set out in it”.
EU will look for measures to ensure fair economic competition.
The Prime Minister’s official spokesperson questioned the trade agreements yesterday, “The UK’s primary objective in the negotiations is to ensure that we restore our economic and political independence on 1 January 2021.”
Britain had been given a warning by France to expect a severe fight with the EU in Brexit trade negotiations.
Foreign minister of France Jean Le Drian said at a conference in Munich that Brussels would justice his stance when negotiations begin next month.
He also said that both the countries would “rip each other apart” as they tried for a favor in the negotiations.
On the other hand, the UK government has clarified that it wanted an agreement based on “friendly co-operation between sovereign equals”.
