The woman tied on her knees by ruling the TMC panchayat leader.

The incident happened on 31st January in South Dinajpur district whereas local media reported it today.

A video went viral on media in which the victim Smriti Kana Das was brutally beaten up. Gram Panchayat Deputy Pradhan Amal Sarkar dragged her on the road by her arms.

Her sister Soma Das was also dragged to the ground.

Das informed the local media, “When I raised my voice, TMC workers, including Sarkar, beat me up. They tied my legs with a rope and dragged me for several meters. I have lodged a complaint with the police,”

Later on, Smriti Kona Das and her sisters were taken to the nearby hospital. Both were then released from the hospital after necessary medical formalities.

Smriti Kona Das said, “The panchayat administration started the work without our consent. Even then, I was ready to part with the land required for a 12ft-wide road without compensation in the interest of the village. However, I came to know on Friday that they were planning to build a 24ft-wide road and encroached further on land,”

Note than Amal Sarkar was suspended by Trinamool Congrees after the incident. Sources also said that inquiry has been started.

It should be remembered that another firing incident had occurred in India during protests against Citizenship law.
Police informed that no protestors were affected in the firing.
