Trump celebrates acquittal from impeachment charges

US President Donald Trump celebrates his victory a day after his acquittal from impeachment charges.

President Donald Trump said, “I’ve done things wrong in my life, I will admit… but this is what the result is,” He said this while holding up a newspaper headlined “Trump acquitted”.

He added at the White House, “We went through hell, unfairly. We did nothing wrong,” “It was evil, it was corrupt.”

He also said from the East Room, which was filled with cabinet officials and followers, “Now we have that gorgeous word. I never thought it would sound so good,”

“It’s called ‘total acquittal’.”

Trump had earlier mocked impeachment foes who raised their religious belief. Trump said on his impeachment, “It was all bullshit,” “This should never happen to another president ever.”

On the other hand, U.S. Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi criticized the Senate’s acquittal of President Donald Trump and said he remains “an ongoing threat to American democracy”.

US media reported, “Today, the President and Senate Republicans have normalized lawlessness and rejected the system of checks and balances of our Constitution,” Pelosi had earlier said in a statement issued after the Senate acquitted Trump of both impeachment articles passed by the House.

“The President remains an ongoing threat to American democracy, with his insistence that he is above the law and that he can corrupt the elections if he wants to,” Pelosi said.

Senate Democratic minority leader Chuck Schumer said Trump’s acquittal by the Senate was “virtually valueless” since Republicans refused witnesses at his impeachment trial.
