An Iranian court has ruled that an Iranian citizen who provided information to the US and Israeli intelligence services about the slain Revolutionary Guards commander Qassem Soleimani will be executed soon.

It should be noted that Qasim Soleimani, the head of the Quds Force of the Revolutionary Guards, was killed in a US drone strike in Iraq on January 3.

According to the details, in a news conference, the spokesman of the judiciary Ghulam Hussain Ismaili said that Mahmoud Mousavi Majeed, one of the spies working for the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and Mossad, should be sentenced to death.

He said that he (Mahmoud Mousavi) told our enemy about the whereabouts of Qasim Soleimani.

However, officials did not say whether Mousavi’s case was linked to an announcement made by Iran last summer that it had arrested 17 CIA spies and some of them were sentenced to death.

It may be recalled that on January 3, Major General Qassem Soleimani, the head of the Quds Force of the Revolutionary Guards, was killed in a US airstrike near the airport in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei later appointed his deputy, Ismail Qayani, as head of the Revolutionary Guards’ Quds Force after the death of General Qassem Soleimani.

It should be noted that the US had accused Qassem Soleimani of being the mastermind of Iranian-backed militias in attacks on US forces in the region.

However, tensions between the two countries escalated after the head of the Quds Force of the Revolutionary Guards was killed in a US airstrike.

After the death of Qassem Soleimani, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei threatened the United States with dire consequences, called Qassem Soleimani the global face of resistance and declared three days of mourning in the country.

On the same day, US President Donald Trump had said that Major General Qassem Soleimani, the head of the Quds Force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, should have been assassinated long ago.

Donald Trump had said in a tweet that Qassem Soleimani should have been dealt with many years ago because he was plotting to kill many people but he was caught.

On the other hand, Iran had announced its complete withdrawal from the nuclear deal reached with the world powers in 2015.

Iran later responded by attacking the Iraqi airbase where US troops were present.

However, within hours of the attack, it emerged that high-alert Iranian forces had mistakenly blown up a Ukrainian passenger plane flying from Tehran.

All 176 people were killed when the plane crashed.

The Ukrainian prime minister confirmed that 176 people were on board, including 167 passengers and nine crew members.
