At least 19 people died and several got wounded in an explosion at a clinic in Iran’s capital city Tehran.
The incident took place at the Sina Athar clinic. Officials fear that the death toll may rise.
According to Iran’s state media, senior officials said that the explosion took place due to gas leak.
Firefighters extinguished the fire hours later.
Authorities said that most of the victims were women.
According to state media, Tehran fire department spokesman Jalal Maleki said that some of the victims “were in upper floors, in operation rooms – who were either patients being operated on or those with them”.
“They, unfortunately, lost their lives due to the heat and thick smoke,”
He added that firefighters had rescued 20 people.
He continued that 25 employees were inside the clinic at the time of the explosion.
