North Korean president Kim Jong-un has appreciated the ‘shining success’ of the country in handling coronavirus.
Kim Jong-un spoke at a politburo meeting. He said that North Korea had “prevented the inroad of the malignant virus and maintained a stable situation”.
North Korea claims that there are no Covid-19 cases. But analysts say this is unlikely.
Mr. Kim is said to have “analyzed in detail the six-month-long national emergency anti-epidemic work” at a politburo meeting on Thursday. He said the success in handling the virus was “achieved by the far-sighted leadership of the Party Central Committee”.
However, he also put attention towards the significance of maintaining “maximum alert without… relaxation on the anti-epidemic front”. He added that Covid-19 is still present in neighboring countries.
KCNA report mentioned on Friday, “He repeatedly warned that hasty relief of anti-epidemic measures will result in an unimaginable and irretrievable crisis.”
North Korea had closed its borders and had isolated thousands of people six months ago in the capital city Pyongyang as Covid-19 surged worldwide.
It had earlier closed schools, but have reopened it recently. But the ban on public gatherings is still in effect. Wearing face masks have been made compulsory.
South Korea’s intelligence agency had claimed that rumors about North Korea’s leader Kim Jong-un’s health were baseless. It also claimed that no signs of his heart surgery had appeared.
Kim Jong-un has shown his appearance in public after 20 days. He had even missed the birthday celebrations of his grandfather.
Some media reports had stated he was seriously ill or was dead.
