Religious riots erupted when thousands of people protested against the controversial citizenship law in New Delhi, where they were suddenly attacked by extremists and miscreants, which turned the protests into religious riots.
At least 53 people were killed and more than 400 injured during the riots, while a large Muslim population was targeted in Delhi.
The Indian Supreme Court, while hearing a petition against the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), questioned the performance of the police.
