US President Donald Trump has promised not to order Americans to wear face masks to avoid the spread of coronavirus.

He spoke after the top health expert Dr. Anthony Fauci insisted all the leaders to be “as forceful as possible” in ordering people to wear masks.

He said that wearing face coverings is “really important” and “we should be using them, everyone”.

The US is dealing with the highest number of Covid-19 cases. There are 3,770,012 confirmed cases out of which 142,064 have died whereas 1,741,233 have recovered. The number of active cases is 1,886,715.

Various state governors have ordered the public to wear masks outdoors, rather than a personal choice.

Mr. Trump spoke to Fox News on Friday. He said that he did agree to make face masks mandatory, people should be granted “certain freedom”.

He had worn a face covering for the first time last Saturday.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) earlier this week released a statement in which it advised the people to cover their faces.

“We are not defenseless against COVID-19,” CDC Director Dr. Robert R Redfield said. “Cloth face coverings are one of the most powerful weapons we have to slow and stop the spread of the virus – particularly when used universally within a community setting.”

Coronavirus cases have crossed the 1 million mark in India whereas the death toll crossed 25,000.

The Health Ministry has confirmed more than 34,000 new infections in the last 24 hours.

According to details, India has reported 1,005,637 confirmed cases of coronavirus out of which 25, 609 patients died whereas 636,602 have recovered. The number of active cases is 343,426.
