Russia and China, two members of the Security Council, have stated opposition to using force or imposing sanctions on Syria.
According to the news agency, a resolution was tabled by the United Nations to provide assistance to refugees and asylum seekers in war-torn areas, seeking approval to provide assistance for one more year in the areas agreed upon by China and Russia.
The resolution, introduced by Germany and Belgium, was aimed at providing aid to Syrian refugees and asylum seekers via Turkey after UN Security Council approval. The United Nations says more than 3 million people in the Syrian region of Idlib are in dire need of humanitarian assistance.
More than 3.6 million people affected by the ongoing war and civil war in Syria are in dire need of assistance, In 2014, the Security Council approved the provision of humanitarian assistance to these refugees and asylum seekers, which expires on Friday.
The UN humanitarian agency has sent 8,468 trucks of relief supplies to Idlib refugees and asylum seekers since January this year, of which only 1,613 reached Idlib via Turkey.
It should be noted that Syria has been embroiled in a civil war since 2011 in which thousands of people have been killed so far while millions of people have been displaced and forced to seek refuge in other countries.
