Unresolved Kashmir, Palestine Issue Damages Credibility of int'l organizations: Erdogan

In a virtual address to the UN General Assembly, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said that the unresolved Kashmir and Palestine issue has damaged the credibility of international organizations.

Heads of state are addressing the 75th annual session of the UN General Assembly via video link due to the coronavirus.

Addressing the UN General Assembly on the video link, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan took a firm stand on the Kashmir issue.

Tayyip Erdogan said that Kashmir issue is key in peace and stability in South Asia but this issue has not been resolved till date.

He said that steps to end the special status of Occupied Kashmir have complicated the issue. “We are in favour of resolving the issue through dialogue,” he added.

Tayyip Erdogan said that the Kashmir issue needs to be resolved in accordance with the UN resolutions and especially the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.

Referring to the Palestinian issue, he said that the Palestinian issue has also become complicated, but the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with the capital Jerusalem is the only solution to the Palestinian issue.

He added that reforms are needed to empower the United Nations, while the Iran nuclear program dispute should be resolved through diplomacy and dialogue in accordance with international law.

He urged that the United Nations declare March 15 as the day of global solidarity against Islamophobia.

It may be recalled that last year too Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan had highlighted the Kashmir issue in his address to the UN General Assembly.
