The ceasefire between Armenia and Azerbaijan was violated on the first day of the US-brokered talks in Nagorno-Karabakh, and fighting between the two forces continues.

According to the details, the ceasefire agreed upon in the US mediation was implemented today and on the first day, both countries accused each other of violating.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said in a televised address that he wanted a political and military solution to the conflict.

On the other hand, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Vovayi Pashinyan said in a statement on social media that “Armenia is abiding by the ceasefire.”

It is believed that hundreds of lives have been lost so far in the fighting that began on September 27, while two regular ceasefire attempts by Russia have failed.

The world powers are trying to save the region from tensions and prevent further escalation of the conflict, as there is a risk of clashes between other countries, including Russia and Turkey.

The third attempt at a ceasefire between Azerbaijan and Armenia was made by the United States, and in Washington on October 25, the two countries’ foreign ministers held separate talks with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

According to the report, the foreign ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia agreed on a ceasefire.

A joint statement from the US State Department, Azerbaijan and Armenia stated that the ceasefire agreement would be implemented from Monday (October 26th).

In a statement, US President Donald Trump congratulated the two countries and said in a tweet: “Congratulations to the Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Peshnian and the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev for agreeing to a ceasefire.”

“Many lives will be saved,” Trump said.

While Tweeting Azeri President said, “We are liberating our homeland from occupiers and restoring historical justice on the battlefield.”
