US President Donald Trump has imposed new sanctions on Iran, after which Iran will not be able to sell oil to Syria and Venezuela. This is considered to be another tactic of President Trump to win the next presidential election.

The Trump administration has been imposing tough sanctions on the Islamic Republic of Iran since 2018, aimed at curbing oil exports and completely shutting off the financial resources of US regional allies Saudi Arabia and Israel.

Under the new decision, the Trump administration on Monday, October 26, added Iran’s state-owned National Iranian Oil Company, Iran’s Ministry of Petroleum and the National Iranian Tanker Company to the Anti-Terrorism Authority’s list. It is also possible that this decision has been reversed.

The US Treasury Department has imposed new sanctions on all three Iranian sectors in conjunction with its Revolutionary Guards’ Al-Quds Force. The United States has already declared the Al-Quds Force a terrorist organization. Al-Quds commander Qassem Soleimani was killed in a US airstrike near Baghdad airport in January this year.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has said the new sanctions should be a warning to the few remaining buyers of Iranian oil.

Pompeo said in a statement that these sanctions are an important step in putting more pressure on Iran to limit its ability to intimidate its neighbours and destabilize the Middle East.

Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh while condemning the sanctions said that this is another attempt by the United States after Washington failed to reduce Iranian crude exports to zero.

Zanganeh, who has also been personally targeted by the United States, wrote on Twitter: “Imposition of sanctions on me and my colleagues is a passive reaction to the failure of Washington’s policy of reducing [Iran’s] crude oil exports to zero. The era of unilateralism is over in the world. Iran’s oil industry will not be hamstrung.”

“I have no assets outside of Iran to be subject to the sanctions. I would sacrifice my life, belongings and reputation for Iran,” he added.

Reacting to the US decision, Iranian Foreign Minister Jawad Zarif called the US accustomed to sanctions and advised it to give up the habit.
