Kashmiris on both sides of the Line of Control are observing the Jammu Martyrs’ Day on Friday.

According to Kashmir media source, hundreds of thousands of Kashmiris were massacred by the forces of Maharaja Hari Singh, the Indian army, and Hindu extremists in different parts of the Jammu region while they were migrating to Pakistan during the first week of November in 1947.

The All Parties Hurriyat Conference and other Hurriyat leaders and organizations expressed thoughts in their separate statements on sacrifices of the Martyrs.

APHC spokesman in a statement in Srinagar termed the 6th November 1947 tragedy as the worst kind of genocide in human history.

He requested people to hold prayer meetings in their respective localities and pay homage to those innocents who were brutally killed.

The spokesman said that under a well-planned strategy, thousands of Muslims were taken away from their locations and killed in cold blood and several Muslim women were raped and molested.

In Azad Jammu and Kashmir, the day was started with special prayers for the martyrs Kashmir liberation struggle, early liberation of Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, and integrity and prosperity of Pakistan.

It is a public holiday in Azad Jammu and Kashmir today.
