Azerbaijan had gained complete control over the Nagorno-Karabakh region bordering Iran by liberating it from Armenia.
Azerbaijani ambassador to Pakistan Ali Alizada says the Azerbaijani flag has been hoisted after the Armenian army liberated the Aghbend area adjacent to Iran.
The Azeri Envoy said that the border between Iran and Azerbaijan has been completely secured after the control of Aghbend.
Earlier, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani had warned that an armed conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia could escalate into a regional war.
Tehran, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said in a statement broadcast on state television on Wednesday, October 7, that the threat of an armed conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia could escalate into a regional war.
Iranian President Rouhani said that Azerbaijan and Armenia are both neighbours of Iran and there are reports that fighters from Syria and Libya have been sent to fight in Nagorno-Karabakh. This allegation is being made especially by Armenia.
Ali Alizada added that the Azerbaijani army had liberated 20 more villages from the Armenian occupation, including the border area of Aghbend.
In his statement, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev also expressed happiness over the liberation of the Aghbend border region from the control of the Armenian army.
Ilham Aliyev says he would like to congratulate the people of Azerbaijan on this occasion and pay tribute to his brave army.
It id pertinent to mention here that Armenia and Azerbaijan have been fighting for several days over the Nagorno-Karabakh issue in which hundreds of people have been killed.
Twice attempts were made for a temporary ceasefire between the two countries, but violations soon followed.
Note that both countries claim ownership of the Nagorno-Karabakh region, but the Nagorno-Karabakh region is part of the officially and internationally recognized Azerbaijan but was occupied by an Armenian ethnic group with the help of Armenia in the 1990 war. Was and is now under the control of the Armenian army.
