President-elect Joe Biden will officially take oath in the inauguration ceremony today (Wednesday). President Donald Trump has made his farewell speech before leaving office.

A video was posted on YouTube. Trump said in the video, “We did what we came to do – and so much more.” He added that he took on “the tough battles, the hardest fights… because that’s what you elected me to do”.

“Political violence is an attack on everything we cherish as Americans. It can never be tolerated,” Mr. Trump said in his video.

Donald Trump has been impeached for “incitement of insurrection” over the attack that took place on Capitol Hill a few days ago. He will face trial in the Senate after he leaves the office. He could be barred from standing for public office if convicted.

In his message, Mr. Trump said his administration built “the greatest economy in the history of the world”.

 According to the international news agency, the economy of the US is facing more of a struggle to deal with the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic. Retail sales have decreased and employers reduced jobs. 

 “Our agenda was not about right or left, it wasn’t about Republican or Democrat, but about the good of a nation, and that means the whole nation,” Mr. Trump said.
