Saudi Arabia’s Directorate General of Counter-Narcotics seized millions of amphetamine tablets in a joint operation with the General Customs Authority, thwarting attempts to smuggle large quantities of drugs into the country from abroad.

Mohammed Khaled al-Najidi, a spokesman for Saudi Arabia’s anti-narcotics agency, said authorities and security agencies working to curb drug smuggling searched a container arriving at the port of Jeddah that contained 2.1 million amphetamines in crates of grapes. 90,500 bullets were hidden.

The spokesman said eight suspects, including two foreigners and six locals, had been arrested in connection with the attempt to smuggle large quantities of drugs.

Al-Najidi said that action has been initiated against the arrested accused in accordance with the law. He urged the citizens to immediately point out any attempt of corruption to the competent authorities and contact the helpline number 995 for this purpose.
