A court in Turkey has sentenced Adnan Oktar, a 64-year-old self-styled religious scholar, controversial TV personality and businessman, to more than 1,000 years in prison for various crimes, including sexual offences.
According to international media reports, Adnan Oktar was sentenced by a Turkish court to 1,000 years in prison for sexual exploitation of underage girls, sexual offences, spying on politicians and the military, violence against others and deprivation of personal liberty.
Adnan Oktar was arrested by Istanbul police in 2018 along with 200 others and tried for serious crimes.
He was known as a controversial scholar not only in Turkey but all over the world. He also set up a TV channel to promote his ideas.
A special report on the life of Adnan Aktar by the Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT) stated that he had set up a TV channel to promote his controversial religious views, from which he met semi-nude women.
The report said Adnan Oktar’s TV broadcasts showed him sitting around attractive women, usually dressed in short western attire, and he was seen talking about religion during such broadcasts.
Adnan Akhtar was also known for spreading nudity and portraying women as sex objects.
He also made fabricated claims about the military and politicians during TV broadcasts, while his business earnings led to revelations such as funding extremist organizations.
In this regard, the Turkish daily Sabah reported that the case against Adnan Oktar was pending in the courts for two years and he was recently sentenced to 1,075 years in prison.
Apart from Adnan Oktar, two key members of his organization were sentenced to 200 years in prison.
One of his operatives was sentenced to 211 years and the other to 186 years in prison.
