Authorities in the northern emirates of Sharjah and Ajman are investigating cybercrime activities as online frauds are on the rise.

As per the details, authorities have begun the crackdown on fake food and shopping websites that steal money from the victims’ bank accounts through online fraud.

According to the international news agency, hackers were instigating people through fake websites with the name of prominent restaurants and shopping centers in the UAE.

Police officers have said that they have received several complaints about such illegal activities. Police have also found that illegal activities increased as more people were staying indoors due to coronavirus and they were more engaged in online shopping.

Major Nora Al Shamsi, Director of Media and Public Relations Department of Ajman Police, said that authorities have intensified their awareness campaign and warned the public to exercise caution when dealing with online websites.

Officials have urged the users to make a phone call to order any items and pay the amount in cash at the time of delivery instead of making online payments.

Electronic warnings have also been issued regarding fake websites that are misusing other brands’ names.
