A massive fire has erupted at one of the largest oil refineries in Indonesia. Firefighters are struggling to control it.
As per the details, at least give people are injured as fire erupted at the Balongan refinery at 00:45 local time on Monday.
the regional disaster management agency reported that 5 people were being treated in the hospital as they had serious burns. Another 15 were having minor burns. The injured ones are both nearby residents and those who were on a road near the refinery.
Around 950 residents have evacuated the area. Some people have been reported missing.
According to the international news agency, videos on social media and TV showed that the fire was still raging on Monday, smoke was seen rising high above the refinery.
A nearby resident told a local news source, “We smelled a strong fuel scent first, so strong that my nose hurt, while we heard lightning strikes.”
According to the international news agency, the Balongan Refinery is one of Indonesia’s largest refineries and also one of its most crucial, as it feeds fuel and petrochemicals to the greater Jakarta area.
Earlier last year, a landmark building in Beirut’s commercial district caught fire on Tuesday, Lebanese media reported.
The landmark building was designed by the late British-Iraqi architect Zaha Hadid.
