The nearly 90-year-old car, once owned by Britain’s Prince Philip, is now the centre of attention at a museum off the coast of Sri Lanka.

According to the reports, the Duke of Edinburgh, whose last rites will be performed on Saturday, was fond of cars.

When he was stationed with the British Navy in Colombo in 1940, he bought a 1935 Standard Nine for 12 pounds.

“When he came back in the early 1950s, he came and saw the car,” said Sanjeev Gardiner, who owns the car at his Galle Face Hotel in Colombo.

“When he saw the car, he said he hoped the brakes were working,” he said. It didn’t work then. ”

According to Sanjeev Gardiner, the prince admitted that the Standard was the first car he bought. They also became the standard motor car club pattern.

The Sanjeev Gardiner Hotel, one of the oldest hotels in the former British colony, has a museum built around this silver and black sedan. The purpose of which is to make it safe for the entertainment of guests and tourists.

According to museum records, Prince Philip drove the vehicle for the first time to the Trincomalee Naval Base, 260 km from Colombo.

According to Sanjeev Gardiner, the vehicle has travelled more than 93,000 km. It has been repaired many times and can still run but is prohibited due to the cost of insurance.

The car was bought by Sanjeev Gardiner’s father in 1950.

Prince Philip, who died last week at the age of 99, was known for his love of cars and often drove his car on his own.
