Afghanistan: Blast Near Defense Minister's Residence Kills 6, Including Attackers

A car bomb blast near the most secure green zone in the Afghan capital, Kabul, has killed at least six people.

According to the international media, security officials said three civilians were among those killed in Tuesday night’s attack

At least seven people were injured in the attack, according to Afghan Health Ministry spokesman Ghulam Dastagir Nazary.

An Interior Ministry spokesman said all the attackers had been killed in the security operation.

A senior security official said the car bomb had exploded at the residence of the Afghan defence minister, which is located next to the MP’s house.

Ever since the Biden administration announced that US troops would leave Afghanistan by September, the Taliban have stepped up attacks on key Afghan cities. Meanwhile, the Taliban have also attacked areas considered to be the safest in Kabul.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, according to Reuters.
Hundreds of civilians took to the streets after the attack near Kabul’s Green Zone, chanting “Allahu Akbar” in support of the Afghan government army.

The rally, which began at night, spread throughout the city, with men as well as some women holding candles and Afghan flags.

The country’s vice president, Amrullah Saleh, said, “It was such a historic moment to echo the Kabul masses ” Allah o Akbar, death to Talib terrorists & their backer”. Unforgettable moments of emotions & patriotism.”

Last week, residents of the western part of the Afghan province of Herat also demonstrated against the Taliban and in support of government security forces, which are now spreading to other cities.

In the aftermath of Tuesday’s attack, Defense Minister Bismillah Mohammadi said he and his family were not harmed, but some of his bodyguards were injured.
A Kabul police spokesman said at least 30 civilians had been evacuated from the scene.

According to the city’s emergency hospital, they have received 11 people injured in the attack.

On the other hand, the Taliban has said that they have killed the governor of Wardak province on Tuesday.

The latest attack is part of a series of Taliban attacks targeting government officials and social workers.
