Vladimir Putin has been urging nations who buy Russian gas to pay in rubles in order to help the Russian economy recover after heavy sanctions were imposed on it.
In a meeting with allies following a phone discussion with European leaders, Putin stated that if the countries do not modify their stance by April 1, he is prepared to cancel all contracts.
He maintained that if hostile nations do not pay in rubles, “we would consider this a default on gas contracts,” and that current contracts would be terminated.
