RUSSIA has admitted losing nearly 10,000 troops during its invasion of Ukraine.

A previously unknown figure was revealed by a pro-Kremlin newspaper, revealing the true cost of Vladimir Putin’s disastrous invasion.

When he ordered the invasion, the Russian tyrant expected a quick victory, but his forces have met stiff Ukrainian resistance and may soon buckle.

Russia has kept the true death toll hidden, admitting only 498 deaths on March 2.

However, in an unusual move, Komsomolskaya Pravda reported that, according to the Russian Defense Ministry, 9,861 Russian soldiers were killed and 16,153 were injured in Ukraine.

The report was quickly removed, despite the fact that several screenshots were taken, including those by the Wall Street Journal.

Ukraine claims to have killed approximately 15,000 Russians and destroyed a large amount of equipment.

The new Russian figures are higher than the 7,000 people thought to have died and up to 21,000 injured, according to the US military.

According to reports, Russia is secretly transporting the corpses of fallen Russian soldiers home at night on trains and ambulances via Belarus in order to conceal the true death toll.

Five Russian generals and other senior commanders, including those from elite paratrooper units, are among the dead.

The latest high-ranking officer to perish is the deputy commander of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet, dealing another blow to Vladimir Putin’s forces.

Captain Andrey Paliy, 51, is the first senior Russian naval official to be killed in the conflict with Ukraine.

When he died, he was reportedly involved in Russian marine attacks near the port city of Mariupol, though the exact circumstances of his death are unknown.

Moscow has yet to officially acknowledge his death, but fellow Russian Konstantin Tsarenko, secretary of the public council at Sevastopol Nakhimov Naval School, appeared to confirm it.

Anton Gerashchenko, a Ukrainian official, also claimed Paliy was killed earlier on Sunday without providing any further details.

Paliy was born in Kyiv, Ukraine’s capital, but refused to take the Ukrainian military oath in 1993, instead opting to serve in Russia’s Northern Fleet.

He previously served on the Russian nuclear missile cruiser “Peter the Great” and was the deputy head of the Russian naval academy in Sevastopol, Crimea.

It comes as Ukraine claims to have assassinated a fifth Russian general, undermining Putin’s army’s resolve even further.

Lieutenant-General Andrei Mordvichev, commander of the 8th Combined Arms Army, was killed in action near the southern city of Kherson at Chornobaivka.

Major-General Oleg Mityaev, 47, was killed in Mariupol on Wednesday, bringing the total number of Russian officers to die since the start of the war to 13.
