Putin’s assault of Ukraine continues, with Russian missiles striking an aircraft maintenance facility in the western city of Lviv yesterday morning. According to Lviv mayor Andriy Sadovy, the building, which is located adjacent to Ukraine’s second-largest airport, was damaged, but no one was injured. Meanwhile, 130 people have been rescued from the wreckage after Russian military destroyed a theatre housing over 1000 Ukrainian citizens, including children.

Several Western leaders, including US Vice President Joe Biden and UK Foreign Secretary Liz Truss, have labelled Putin a “war criminal” for his savage invasion of Ukraine.

The West has also imposed harsh penalties on Russia, which Putin has termed as a “economic blitzkrieg.”

Russia’s president has had a rocky relationship with the West since assuming power in 1999, but tensions deteriorated further after Russia invaded the Crimean peninsula in 2014.

Following the attempted assassination of former Russian double agent Sergei Skripal in Salisbury in 2018, London in particular has had a strained relationship with Moscow.

The United Kingdom suspected Russia was responsible for the novichok poisoning of Mr Skripal and his daughter Yulia.

Scotland Yard also stated that there was enough evidence to prosecute Russian citizens Alexander Petrov and Ruslan Bishirov with attempted murder.

However, in a 2019 interview with the Financial Times, Putin indicated his intention to “repair” Russia’s ties with the United Kingdom.

“I think Russia and the UK are both interested in fully repairing our relations,” Putin told the journal. “At the very least, I hope a few basic measures will be taken.”
