Near Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s official residence in central London on Monday, a man armed with a knife was apprehended.

Whitehall, which houses the Foreign Office and Ministry of Defence, and leads to Johnson’s Downing Street office and residence, was briefly closed by police but later reopened.

The incident occurred at Horse Guards Parade, a ceremonial parade ground that overlooks St James’s Park, according to police. An investigation has been launched into what happened.

A 29-year-old man with a knife confronted two Ministry of Defence Police officers at 08:50. Officers used Taser on the man and restrained him. “There were no reported injuries,” the Met said.
