Sherri Papini pleads guilty to faking her kidnapping as the mayor reveals details of hoax

As the ex-mayor of the city she terrorised by making the false claim says, SHERRI Papini hopes she can finally get the psychiatric help she “clearly needs.”

Papini, 39, pleaded guilty to one count each of mail fraud and lying to a federal officer on Monday, admitting her three-week kidnapping story in 2016 was a lie.

Papini’s plea came days after she made a deal with prosecutors to confess in exchange for a lighter sentence.

The shamed mother-of-two appeared via Zoom in Sacramento federal court on Monday morning, her eyes welling up with tears.
