The dead toll from four bombings that ripped into minibuses and a mosque in Afghanistan has increased to at least 16, officials said Thursday, with ISIS claiming responsibility for some of the blasts.

While the frequency of bombs has decreased since the Taliban took power in August, the country was shaken by numerous devastating strikes last month during Ramadan.

A health official and police said three explosives put on different minibuses exploded in the northern city of Mazar-i-Sharif on Wednesday, killing at least ten people

The bombs were placed on three minibuses in different districts of the city, “Asif Waziri, a spokesperson for the Balkh provincial police, told AFP, adding that 15 other people were injured.

Three women were among the ten people killed in the bombings, according to Najibullah Tawana, the chairman of the Balkh health department.

ISIS claimed credit for the minibus assaults on social media hours after the bombings.

The three bombs, it said on Telegram, were carried out by its “soldiers.”

Late Wednesday, another bomb exploded inside a mosque in Kabul, the Afghan capital.

Kabul police official Khalid Zadran tweeted early Thursday that six people were killed and another 18 were injured in the incident.

The interior ministry stated two individuals were murdered and ten were injured in the aftermath of the mosque incident.

According to the ministry, the explosive was hidden in a mosque fan.
