Synopsis
After an elementary school attack, 18 pupils and three adults were killed.
In the aftermath of the Texas school shooting that murdered 18 pupils and three adults, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has slammed “pro-life” Republicans for their slowness on gun reform.
The New York representative turned to Twitter to blast Republican legislators who are more obsessed with repealing abortion rights than safeguarding American civilians from gun murder.
“There is no such thing as being ‘pro-life’ while supporting laws that let children be shot in their schools, elders in grocery stores, worshippers in their houses of faith, survivors by abusers, or anyone in a crowded place. It is an idolatry of violence. And it must end,” she tweeted.
On Tuesday, a juvenile armed with a handgun and maybe a rifle opened fire at Robb Elementary School, 85 miles west of San Antonio.
According to officials, suspect Salvador Ramos, 18, was also murdered by officers arriving to the scene of the incident in Uvalde.
According to authorities, the gunman entered Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, 85 kilometres west of San Antionio, with a handgun and maybe a rifle before opening fire.
Authorities have not revealed the motive for the shootings, but say the man acted alone.
It is the bloodiest school shooting in Texas since a gunman killed ten people at Houston’s Santa Fe High School four years ago.
The death toll makes it the deadliest attack on an elementary school since the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newtown, Connecticut, which killed 20 pupils and six teachers.
